Do all students participate in NAP Sample Assessments?

No. Only small sample groups of students in Years 6 and 10 participate in these sample assessments, which are held on a rolling three-yearly basis.

What additional support can schools provide for students with special needs who have been selected to undertake the NAP Sample Assessments?

To maximise participation in the NAP Sample Assessments, special provisions and considerations are made available to students who have a language background other than English or disability and have been selected to participate in the NAP Sample Assessments. The sample selection method will give timely warning of what provisions will need to be made for individual students participating in the test, and guidelines state that students requiring reasonable special provisions must be catered for during the testing.

How can schools that aren’t selected for the sample assessments find out how their students are doing in these areas?

School release materials are made available following each sample assessment. The information and assessment materials in these documents have been designed to assist teachers to administer their own assessment and gauge their own students’ proficiency in the relevant subject (ie Science Literacy, ICT Literacy and Civics and Citizenship).
